Obasanjo Pays Surprise Visit To Market In Abeokuta:;: Urges Them To Re Enact March 28 on April 1
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday paid a surprise visit to the popular Itoku market in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to celebrate Easter with the traders.
Mr. Obasanjo, who caused quite a stir with his visit, moved from one stall to the next, greeting hundreds of traders and encouraging them to participate at the next poll.
Excited traders abandoned their shops to have a rare glimpse of the former Nigerian president and shake hands with him.
As he went round stalls, he asked of the efficacy of some herbs from the traders and also had a taste of some of the herbs to convince its hawkers of his belief in the use of herbs.
Mr. Obasanjo later addressed the market men and women telling them to vote wisely in the next poll scheduled to hold on Saturday. He also told them he was in the market to wish them happy Easter.
Finally, he asked them to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner and “do as they did” during the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking later with reporters, who sought to know the import of his advice to the traders, Mr. Obasanjo, who retired from partisan politics last year, reiterated his comment, which appeared to be a veil endorsement of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.
“They should do exactly what they did last Saturday”, he repeated.
At the presidential election, the APC defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state as well as swept majority of the Senate and House of Representatives seat
