Why Do We Celebrate Easter
Why do we celebrate Easter day? What is special about Easter celebration? Many people celebrate Easter without understanding the reason behind the celebration. For some people it is just a holiday period while for others, it is a time to rest from the daily hassles of office work, etc. This post is to give you a better understanding of Easter celebrations for long lasting effects.
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death – Revelation 1:18 (KJV). Easter celebration is all about the death AND the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Also, Easter day reminds us of and emphasizes our redemptive blessings.
The resurrection of Jesus is the anchor of the Christian faith. The purpose of His death would not have been complete if He did not rise again. Our victory over sin and Satan lies on death and resurrection of Jesus. This wisdom of God totally defeated the enemy. 1 Corinthians 2:7-8 says, “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”
The resurrection of Jesus reconciled us back to God (1Peter 1:3) and restored our position in God before the fall of man (Adam). A revelation of this to you will cause you to celebrate Easter day even everyday of your life as a Christian. The devil tried to stop this redemption when he tried to kill Jesus as a baby but failed. It is too late for the devil now. The work of Jesus for our redemption is finished! The long lasting effects of this victory belong to all that accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and saviour.
Easter celebration shows our acknowledgement and appreciation of what Jesus suffered and achieved for us. Furthermore, it is a reminder and celebration of the devil’s defeat forever. The devil lost all the power he had over Christians the day Jesus resurrected. An understanding of the devil’s total defeat empowers Christians to challenge the enemy and exercise their authority over him in Jesus name.
In other words, a Christian who lacks this understanding will still be molested and oppressed by the enemy. This is why Satan will do everything possible to stop the preaching and teaching of the resurrection of Jesus and its power. Easter day is a day among other days that resurrection of Jesus is preached all over the world. Until it is preached, people will not believe or be delivered, (Romans 10:14).
Easter day is more than eating and drinking. It is a day to praise God and thank Him for His great wisdom for salvation. This attitude provokes God’s blessings and manifestation of this resurrection power of Jesus Christ. Among many other blessings, the resurrection power of the lord Jesus brings about the salvation of souls, healings, deliverance, mercies, material provision,(Psalm 103:1-5) and also power, riches, wisdom, strength, honour, glory and blessings, (Revelation 5:12) These are long lasting effects of Easter.
Therefore, Easter celebration is not just a time to give gifts, spend time with the family or visit friends and relations, but a time to CELEBRATE JESUS.
So, as you celebrate Easter day, what are you celebrating – Jesus or what?
